BI Terminology

The Origin of the Term 'Business Intelligence'

The term "business intelligence" originated in the late 1980's when a Gartner, Inc., consultant, Howard Dresner, used it to describe the set of methods that support sophisticated analytical decision-making aimed at improving business processes.
(from "A Brief History of Decision-Making" by Leigh Buchanen and Andre O'Connell, Harvard Business Review, January 2006)
